Inside Love Dance Co: A Peek at the Studio Before We Open

There are paint tins in the corner, tiles waiting outside the bathroom door, a stack of tiny chairs still in plastic, and somewhere under all of it, lots of props still in boxes for our toddler dance classes and a studio that's about to become a lot of little kids' favourite hour of the week. We're a few weeks out from opening, and honestly, even though we are exhausted and overwhelmed with how much we still have to do, we couldn't wait to show you around before the doors officially open.

So — welcome in. Here's what we've built, and why.

A studio for kids and aults alike

We’re sharing space with Love Pilates - so we’ve made our dance space as adaptable as possible! We have long mirrors along one wall and double barres - to accomodate our big and little dancers! We are also planning adult dance classes - so we want to make sure we can accomodate all shapes and sizes!

The details

You'll spot the colour palette echoes Love Pilates Beecroft — a deliberate choice, since a lot of our Love Dance Co families are already Love Pilates families, and we liked the idea of the two space s feeling like they belong to the same world. You’ll see a very familiar red (which features on our beautiful front door!) but that’s where the similarity ends! We’ve gone bright, punchy - and gender neutral! Because dance is for everyone…..

Beyond that, it's the small things we've fussed over: toddler chairs for the days kids aren’t sure they want to join in, fun colourful storage for all our kids dance props, the all important sticker boxes!

One thing we were fussy about that you won't necessarily notice just by looking: the floor. It's a proper sprung floor, not just carpet over concrete, which matters more than people realise for little bodies (and grown up bodies!). Toddlers and preschoolers jump, stomp, and fall over a lot more than they walk in a straight line, and a sprung floor gives a bit under all that impact instead of sending it straight back up through small knees and ankles. It's a detail you'll never think about once your kid's in there having fun — which is exactly the point. ‍

kara and libby, putting on the finishing touches

‍Most days in the last few weeks, you’ll have found one or both of us and maybe Chris (our Head of Maintenance) too!— hanging the last picture, touching up some paint, testing the sound system, working out where the tiny shoes will live so they're not all over the floor by week three. It's very much a "we built this ourselves" kind of finish, and we're a bit precious about it, in the best way. ‍

Our kids have been begging us all the time to come in and test the dance floor (and sample the stickers!) and are roaming around everywhere in their Love Dance Co. hoodies and t-shirts.

Between the two of us and our five kids, this has been a long time coming — so seeing it come together this close to opening is equal parts thrilling and slightly surreal.

See it for yourself‍ ‍

Love Dance Co opens in Beecroft this July, and we'd love for you to come see the space in person rather than just through a few photos. If you've got a toddler, preschooler or primary schooler who's curious about kids dance classes in Beecroft, the easiest way in is a trial class — no commitment, just come have a look and a dance.

Register your interest and we'll see you in the studio soon.
